CNS NewsA lifelong criminal who got away with murder in the Bronx in 2012 has been charged with shooting and killing a close family friend. This happened just over a year after the person got out of state jail. Deshaun Coleman, 46, is accused of killing 26-year-old Hasan Richburg, who was friends with Victor Maldonado’s sister and who Coleman is said to have shot and killed 12 years ago just two blocks away.

Coleman was charged with murder in the death of Maldonado, but he said it was self-defense at his hearing. He only got a conviction for gun possession, which put him in jail until January 2023. They said Coleman shot Richburg “multiple times” last month in an apartment building on West Kingsbridge Avenue because they didn’t agree about a girl.

After almost a week, he was caught and taken to Bronx Criminal Court. The DA’s Office asked that he be held without bail at Rikers Island, and the judge agreed. Police say Coleman, who goes by the name “Boogie,” killed Maldonado with a gun just before 10:30 p.m. on October 3, 2012, during a fight between his girlfriend and the victim’s sister.

Coleman already had a long list of convictions for other crimes. The sources said Coleman had been caught more than twenty times before for crimes like attempted murder, assault, drug possession, and theft. Maldonado, who was 19 years old, was killed just days before he was to join the US Navy.

Police said they found a.380-caliber gun in Coleman’s girlfriend’s room when they caught him after he had run away. He said he was acting in self-defense at his trial and was found not guilty of murder. Instead, he was found guilty of felony possession of a weapon and given a 12-year prison term. Coleman and Richburg got into a fight on West Kingsbridge Avenue just before 11 a.m. on February 8.

Coleman is said to have shot the younger guy, who then fell and collapsed at the nearby Caridad Restaurant, a Dominican restaurant. He was declared dead at St. Barnabas Hospital, which is also where his family friend Maldonado died after being shot almost 12 years ago. Coleman is being charged with murder, manslaughter, and having a gun without a permit. He has to go back to court in the Bronx on March 14.
