NYPD: An 8-Year-Old Boy Was Caught with A Gun at A School in Brooklyn!

0

CNS NewsAuthorities in Brooklyn were alarmed when an 8-year-old boy was found carrying a gun at PS 158 on Ashford St. near Pitkin and Belmont avenues. The discovery marked the second time in two days that the child had brought the weapon to school, with police also reporting that the boy had threatened a fellow student with the same gun the day before.

The school, lacking metal detectors, relied on vigilant staff and cooperation with law enforcement to address the situation. While no injuries occurred during either incident, the presence of such a dangerous weapon in the hands of a young child is deeply concerning.

The Department of Education (DOE) announced plans to send a letter to all families regarding the incident, emphasizing their commitment to student safety.

Collaboration with the NYPD and the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) will be integral to the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s access to the firearm. While the incident underscores the need for stringent safety measures in schools, it also prompts reflection on broader issues surrounding gun control and youth access to firearms in New York City.
