Another alarming incident involved a 12-year-old girl who was grazed in the neck on New Year’s Day in southwest Houston. Tragically, a 61-year-old nurse lost her life to this reckless act in north Harris County on New Year’s Day of 2020.
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner expressed his hopes for increased public awareness and adherence to safety measures. “We are taking this issue extremely seriously and expect the public to do the same,” Mayor Turner stated. Authorities advised residents to immediately call 911 if they witness someone discharging a firearm.

The organization’s hotline for anonymous tips is 713-222-TIPS, a vital resource for community involvement in preventing these dangerous acts.
