Study: 26K Rape-Related Pregnancies in Texas 16 Months Following Abortion Ban!

CNS NewsA recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reveals a startling statistic: Texas experienced an estimated 26,313 rape-related pregnancies in the 16 months following the state’s implementation of a nearly total abortion ban.

This figure places Texas at the forefront among the 14 states with total abortion prohibitions, a status attributed in part to its large population. Notably, the Texas abortion legislation offers no exceptions for cases of rape or incest.

The study, which draws on data from the Houston Chronicle, estimates a total of 519,981 rapes leading to 64,565 pregnancies in the months after the enactment of total abortion bans across various states after the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June 2022. Among these pregnancies, 5,586 occurred in states with rape exceptions, while the overwhelming majority, 58,979, were in states lacking such provisions.

The Texas figure nearly equals the combined total of the next six states, highlighting a significant issue in the post-Roe v. Wade era. The study did not analyze temporal trends, leaving it unclear whether these estimates signify an increase over previous years.
